  1. Who We Are

Speash is operated by Coora Labs Inc., a company incorporated in British Columbia, Canada.

In this Privacy Policy, “Coora Labs,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Coora Labs Inc. “Speash,” “the App,” and “the Service” refer to the Speash mobile application and related services.

  1. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

We may collect the following information that you provide directly:

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and, depending on the sign-in method you choose, a name and unique account identifier. You may sign in using email/password, Google sign-in, or Apple sign-in. If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email” feature, we receive a relay email address instead of your personal email address.

Onboarding profile. We may collect information you enter during setup, such as your target band score, exam date, study goal, preferred translation language, and other learning preferences.

Voice recordings. We collect audio that you record when using speaking practice, pronunciation, shadowing, or mock speaking test features.

Support communications. If you contact us for support, we collect the information you choose to send us, such as your message, email address, and related account or technical details.

2.2 Information Generated Through Your Use of Speash

We may collect or generate the following information when you use the Service:

Practice content and history. This may include spoken responses, text transcriptions, English translations where requested, AI-generated model answers, AI-generated feedback, estimated band or level information, mock-test results, and saved practice history.

Usage data. This may include features used, lessons completed, tests completed, daily activity, quota usage, subscription entitlement usage, and similar interaction data used to operate and improve the Service.

Subscription data. We receive your subscription status, plan type, product identifier, renewal status, and entitlement information. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

Device and technical data. This may include device model, operating system version, app version, language settings, approximate region based on your device or store locale, and basic diagnostic information used to keep the Service stable and secure.

2.3 Information We Do Not Require

Speash does not require precise GPS location, access to your contacts, or access to your photo library to use the Service.

  1. How We Use Your Information

We use personal information for the following purposes:

  • to create, manage, and authenticate your account;

  • to provide the core features of Speash, including speech-to-text transcription, translation where requested, AI-generated feedback, model answers, and saved practice history;

  • to process voice recordings for speaking practice, pronunciation practice, shadowing practice, and mock speaking tests;

  • to manage free-tier limits, subscription entitlements, fair-use rules, rate limits, and security protections;

  • to process and verify subscription status through Apple, Google, and our subscription management provider;

  • to understand how the Service is used and improve app functionality, content, and learning experience;

  • to maintain, debug, secure, and protect the Service;

  • to prevent fraud, abuse, automated access, account sharing, or misuse;

  • to respond to support requests and communicate with you about your account or the Service; and

  • to comply with legal, regulatory, accounting, tax, and security obligations.

We do not sell your personal information.
We do not use your voice recordings, transcriptions, or practice content to train our own AI models.

  1. Voice Recordings and Microphone Access

Speaking practice requires Speash to process your voice.

The App requests access to your device microphone only when you choose to record a speaking response or use a pronunciation, shadowing, or mock speaking feature. You can disable microphone access in your device settings, but some speaking features may not work without it.

Speash handles recordings differently depending on the feature you use.

Pronunciation and shadowing practice. Your recording is processed to convert your speech into text and provide practice feedback. Speash does not store the original audio after processing. The resulting text may be used to provide feedback and show your practice result.

Mock speaking tests. When you use mock speaking test features, your recording may be processed into text and saved with your account as part of your practice history so you can review your past attempts. These saved recordings are deleted or scheduled for deletion when you delete your account, as described in Section 10.

Voice recordings and related text are transmitted using encryption in transit, such as TLS, to our service providers as needed to provide transcription, translation where requested, AI feedback, model answers, and related features.

While Speash does not retain original audio from pronunciation or shadowing practice after processing, our service providers may temporarily process and retain limited technical logs as necessary for security, abuse prevention, debugging, or legal compliance, according to their own data-processing terms.

Voice data may be considered sensitive in some jurisdictions. We process it only to provide the Service, protect the Service, comply with legal obligations, and as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy.

The example audio you listen to and repeat during shadowing practice is pre-recorded, AI-generated voice content provided by Speash. It is not a recording of you and does not contain your personal information.

  1. Automated Feedback and AI Features

Some Speash features use automated systems and AI language models to generate transcriptions, translations, model answers, estimated feedback, and practice history.

These outputs are provided for self-study purposes only. They are not official IELTS scores, certified test results, or human examiner evaluations. AI-generated outputs may contain errors, inaccuracies, omissions, or inappropriate suggestions.

  1. Payments and Subscriptions

All purchases are made through the Apple App Store or Google Play using your store account and are subject to the applicable store’s terms, payment rules, and privacy practices.

Payment processing and payment-card details are handled by Apple or Google. Speash does not receive or store your full payment card details.

We receive only subscription-related information needed to provide paid features, such as your subscription status, plan type, product identifier, renewal status, and entitlement information. We manage subscription entitlements through our subscription management provider.

We do not currently offer a separate web-based or direct payment method.

  1. Service Providers We Share Data With

We use trusted third-party service providers to operate, host, secure, and improve the Service. These providers process personal information on our behalf only as needed to provide their services to us.

We may share personal information with the following categories of providers:

Cloud hosting and storage. We use Amazon Web Services (AWS) to host our servers and store account data, profile data, practice history, transcriptions, and, where applicable, saved mock speaking test recordings.

Authentication. We use Google Firebase Authentication to provide secure sign-in through email/password, Google sign-in, and Apple sign-in.

AI processing and speech services. We use OpenAI to convert speech into text, translate responses into English where you use that feature, and generate model answers and feedback. This may involve voice recordings for processing, practice prompts, spoken responses, transcriptions, and related practice content.

OpenAI states that data submitted through its API is not used to train OpenAI’s models by default unless the customer explicitly opts in. OpenAI may retain API inputs and outputs for a limited period, generally up to 30 days, for abuse monitoring before deletion, unless retention is legally required. OpenAI’s processing is governed by its applicable terms and data-handling policies.

Subscription management. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status, plan type, product identifiers, and entitlements.

App store payments. Payments and in-app purchases are processed directly by Apple App Store or Google Play under their own terms and privacy policies.

We share only the data reasonably needed for each provider to perform its services.

We do not currently use third-party advertising, third-party tracking, or cross-context behavioral advertising services. If we introduce analytics, advertising, tracking, or additional service providers in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy, disclose them in the applicable app store privacy details, and ask for consent where required by law.

  1. International Data Transfers

Coora Labs is based in Canada. Some of our service providers, including AWS and other technology providers, may store or process information in the United States, Canada, or other countries depending on their infrastructure and configuration.

As a result, your information may be transferred to, stored in, or processed outside your country of residence. Data-protection laws in those countries may differ from the laws where you live.

Where required by law, including for users in the UK or European Economic Area, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms.

  1. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, server-side handling of third-party processing, and security practices designed to reduce unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or disclosure.

However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

  1. Data Retention

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service.

After you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, generally within 30 days, unless we are required or permitted to retain certain information for legal, security, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, tax, accounting, or compliance purposes.

Backup copies may remain for a limited period before being overwritten or deleted according to our backup cycle.

Our general retention practices are:

Account and profile data. Retained until you delete your account, unless longer retention is required or permitted by law.

Practice history, transcriptions, translations, and AI feedback. Retained until you delete the relevant items or your account.

Voice recordings. For pronunciation and shadowing practice, original audio is not retained by Speash after processing. For mock speaking tests, saved recordings may be retained as part of your practice history and deleted or scheduled for deletion when you delete your account.

Subscription records. Retained as required for financial, legal, tax, accounting, and compliance purposes.

Support communications. Retained as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your request, maintain business records, resolve disputes, or comply with legal obligations.

  1. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to:

  • access personal information we hold about you;

  • correct inaccurate or incomplete information;

  • delete your personal information;

  • restrict or object to certain processing;

  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;

  • receive a copy of your data in a portable format; and

  • lodge a complaint with a privacy regulator or supervisory authority.

You can manage much of your information directly in the App, including editing your profile, deleting practice items, or deleting your account where those features are available.

Deleting your account also deletes or schedules deletion of stored mock speaking test recordings, practice history, and related account information, subject to the retention rules described in this Privacy Policy.

For privacy requests, contact us at support@speash.app. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice through the App, website, email, or another appropriate method and update the “Last updated” date above.
